A grant from CapCityKids has enabled our school to fulfill the dream of educating every child who walks through these doors. The funding of a math specialist has supported our efforts to raise the achievement level of our homeless and at-risk students. Students and their families gain hope when school becomes a successful experience. In turn, the likelihood increases that these young people will stay in school-and break the cycle of homelessness.
The mission and accomplishments of CapCityKids inspired me to take a more active role in the organization. When asked to serve on the Board, I enthusiastically agreed!

CapCityKids' Kate Amerson: Social Worker of the Year
Kate Amerson, a social worker who supervises a team of graduate school interns within the Austin Independent School District, was named the Texas Social Work Field Instructor of the Year by a consortium of 54 university social work programs for her work on behalf of homeless and at-risk students.
Amerson oversees an innovative collaboration between the Austin Independent School District, the University of Texas School of Social Work and CapCityKids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless students receive a quality education.
The Texas Field Educators’ Consortium awarded Amerson with the Social Work Field Instructor of the Year award in September at the National Association of Social Workers Texas Annual Conference in Houston. Since 1997, the Texas Field Educators’ Consortium has given the statewide award to field instructors to “recognize excellence in the true stars of social work field education."

Help us help our students
CapCityKids (The Capital City Fund for Education) is a non-profit organization created to help children facing homelessness beat the odds and get a quality education. CapCityKids develops innovative programs and provides direct resources to help these students stay in school. Administrative costs for our programs are absorbed by our Board (Dobson Foundation) and by leveraging existing infrastructure at Austin Independent School District . Thanks to this close partnership, 100% of your donations go directly to the students. Your donations not only provide basic school supplies, but also support campus based specialist for at-risk students, after-school tutoring at homeless shelters, and help connect kids with social services.
Kudos to DPR Construction
Special thanks to DPR Construction, which has given us more than $105,000 over the last three years to continue funding our Homeless Shelter Tutoring program! What a great company and what a difference they are making!
